Following their successful contributions to the UN World Investment Forum in Nairobi, AFS have now signed an agreement to partner with CUTS (CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition) which is one of the most respected global service providers of ethical solutions and projects in support of entrepreneurism, fair-trading and providing consumer value.

CUTS are designated partners with the UN division UNCTAD and have long established offices located in New Delhi, Geneva, Hanoi, Lusaka, Nairobi and Accra. UNCTAD introduced AFS to CUTS and we will bring our PPP experience in diaspora entrepreneurism to augment and innovate CUTS global aspirations and direction in initiating contracting with global development funds .

Both Beltus Etchu Ojong CEO African Forum Scotland and Festus Olatunde, Executive Director Governance and Operations have been invited by UNCTAD as part of their strategic partnership, to participate in the UN World Investment Forum 2016, which takes place from 17-21 July, in Nairobi, Kenya. The AFS Directors will participate in three events. Firstly the High-Level Round Table on Investment and Enterprise Development which is scheduled on Wednesday 20 July 2016 then The Private Sector Development and Gender Dialogue which is scheduled for Thursday 21 July 2016 and finally, the Empretec 2016 Women in Business Awards Ceremony and Closing Reception.

This year, the Forum takes place in conjunction with the fourteenth UNCTAD Ministerial meeting (UNCTAD 14), which will attract the participation of 194 UN member states at the highest level, with an expected 7000 delegates in attendance. More than 20 Heads of State and Government have been invited to the conference and a large contingent of ministers and corporate executives will also attend.

Chairman of AFS Ken Stewart stated ‘This is a tremendous honour for African Forum Scotland to enjoy a global platform to present our products, services, achievements and aspirations’.

African Forum Scotland contributed toward policy discussion at the Africa 2nd Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, Cairo, Egypt 17-19 May 2016. The AFS presence was led by Mrs Asma Abdalla who doubles as both Policy Manager of African Forum Scotland and also NSI Business and Development Manager.

He was then awarded the Leadership in technology Award of African Forum Scotland which was presented by Phil Gormley Chief Constable of Police Scotland.  John Obaro founded SystemSpecs which became Nigeria’s foremost indigenous software house. He is a committed advocate and promoter of indigenous software development initiatives and a role model for encouraging promising and successful young entrepreneurs. He received the AFS Award for his leadership and outstanding contribution to software and IT development in Africa. John was recognised as Nigeria’s IT Personality of the Year 2013. In honour of his work, the Technology Centre within Centre for African Research & Development Scotland was formally named the “John Tani Obaro Centre for IT Development”.

James McCallum founded LR Senergy in 2013 as an integrated exploration, production and energy services consultancy providing technical expertise to a broad, global client base of operators, investors and energy vendors. At one point it was Scotland’s fastest growing private company of scale, and won UK export achievement awards for its work in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and of course Africa. During this period James McCallum was twice recognised as first a Scottish, then an UK, Entrepreneur of the Year and made honorary Professor of Energy at Strathclyde University. His lifelong commitment to improving safety, efficiency and environmental performance of hydrocarbon extraction, especially in developing and emerging nations earns him the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ken Stewart Unanimously Appointed Chairman Of The Board

At the June Board meeting of African Forum Scotland, Ken Stewart, Adviser to the Board, was unanimously appointed as Chairman of the Board.
Beltus Etchu CEO stated, “In recent years, Ken has given sterling service and sound advice to the Board and has helped elevate the company to new levels of attainment and opportunity.”
